The IoA Winter School this year was held at Spalding Aikido Club over the weekend of 23/24/25 March. Friday afternoon was devoted to 1st & 2nd Dan gradings. Slough Centre Aikido members Rob Dunford gained his 2nd Dan and Wayne Eveleigh 1st Dan.
The weekend was presided over by Sensei Lawson Moore and Sensei William Timms of the IoA Governing Board, who also took a lesson each on both days. Saturday morning kicked off with four consecutive 3rd Dan gradings dealing with the Riai System, all four candidates were successful, three from IoA dojos in Scotland, plus Rod Davis from The Hut. The rest of the day was taken up with various training sessions, including one by IoA 5th Dans in which our Sensei, Paul Foster-Dent, Sensei John Kingsbury, who teaches our Children’s Class and former Hut member Sensei Colin Simpson took part.
Hut member Ali Khan, who also teaches at the Kingston Club and Ken Kidston, who teaches our Children’s class from time to time, received their 4th Dans. Mike Jackson from The Hut received his 2nd Dan.
Sunday sessions included a Weapons demo by a visiting Sensei from Ireland and sessions by three female Aikidoka, including our own 3rd Dan Janet Pain and 2nd Dan Tanith Barry.
Many thanks go to Spalding Aikido Club for a great weekend. A full report is available on the IoA website.
